Hawkwind,

Very nice tree. I imagine it is quite large to be that old and would enjoy seeing a wider shot showing the full tree. Also enjoyed the pics of the hawk, beautiful.

PS Been to your Plymouth pix - very good. You have a shot of one of my fav flowers - the dandelion. Most people seem to regard it as a weed but I love it.

P- It's a Linden tree and legend is that a girl had planted it in her yard on her engagement but something happened and it was broken off and she tore the tree out of the ground and threw it in the street.   Her father took the tree and planted in that spot.   Since then, there have been lots of proposals and weddings under that tree.

Love the base of the tree. . .it's one of those trees that you just want to run your hands over all the knots and gnarls and twists. . .and draw in the history.

Yes, what an interesting tree. I think planners should be chopped-down and trees planted where they sat.

What sort of tree is it, please? An oak, perhaps? Why is it called "The Wedding Tree"?

The base of it has some wonderful undulations, as you mention.

I'm taking the easy route with this a posting a direct link to my flickr page... this tree is about 400 years old was slated to be chopped down but saved because of it's history going back to the Pilgrims.  Sits on Cole's Hill where they buried the dead from the first winter and then planted corn so that the native people would not realize how many had actually died that winter.   

Time had made this tree knarled and full of interesting bumps and nooks and crannies.....
