Hi Diane,

>D> Love the effect. It does create new interest in a somewhat dated image.

Thanks Diane... appreciated.

Mind you, makes me feel somewhat dated too!

Prosaic,

Love the effect. It does create new interest in a somewhat dated image.

Hi Sauce,

>S> the picture really evokes an era - the smart ties, the satin sheen on the dress; all very groomed. the swirls seem to suggest time's effect on memory but the one woman is still very clear.

Yes she is strangely haunting. She seems to penetrate one's conscious from within the photograph - most strange.

Thanks Sauce,

p.

Hi Nas, Thanks for re-visiting,

>N> Yes, I understood the mirror symbolism.  Reflecting on the people.  I'm not sure that the use of blinds does make me feel I'm looking at something I'm not part of.  I tend to feel that anyway just seeing the original, however, I do like the effect.

OK, thank for explaining, appreciated.

>N> The other effect I like is the colourisation negative?

No, this is a monochrome photograph from the 1950s I think and I simply tinted the whole think with a blue hue. I did that because black & white carries a clarity of its own but a monochrome colour seems to distance us further. Of course, I could have used sepia but I was not trying to ape "old" (this is not that old anyway) I was trying to create a particular effect.

Cheers,

p.

Hi P

Quote:
my idea was that the blinds are to show us we are looking in at something, of which we are not part; the mirror was to show reflections / echoes of the past and the swirls capture all bar those two in their vortex. Then, of course the original picture gives us the stares of those two - which is what stimulated me to work with the picture in the first place. I wonder who took it?

Yes, I understood the mirror symbolism.  Reflecting on the people.  I'm not sure that the use of blinds does make me feel I'm looking at something I'm not part of.  I tend to feel that anyway just seeing the original, however, I do like the effect.

The other effect I like is the colourisation - negative?

Hi Nas,

>N> I see the picture differently. To me the two people on the right are quite solid, whereas those on he left are disappearing like ghosts.  Almost being sucked into the void that is the past where they will quickly be forgotten.

Another brill interpretation, thank you Nas. Most interesting. I welcome them all.

(This was actually what I had in mind when making the image, by the way - my idea was that the blinds are to show us we are looking in at something, of which we are not part; the mirror was to show reflections / echoes of the past and the swirls capture all bar those two in their vortex. Then, of course the original picture gives us the stares of those two - which is what stimulated me to work with the picture in the first place. I wonder who took it?)

Thanks, p.

Hi Ren,

>R> Love the mirroring. . .and the way the one person who was looking at the camera sits apart, well there was that guy on the other end. . .but still she is most focused. . .and the rest become a wave of energy around her. . .

Thanks - what a fab interpretation - I had never thought of her at the centre of an energy vortex. Brill! I like that. Much appreciated.

Socializing

I did not take this photograph - but I expect the photographer would not mind this liberty. I am aware of copyright laws and would be happy to credit the photographer if it were possible to identify him - but it is not.

All the post-shoot effects are mine.

Comments / crit appreciated.

Thank you.

As a courtesy to Anon, here is a copy of the original photograph. (NB Both images are substantially reduced in resolution for posting here).
