Hi Diane,

Thanks for visiting,

>D> I love the drama and contrast created by your manipulation of this photo. It goes quite well with your choice of title. I think the panoramic format also adds to the impact. Well done.

Thanks muchly. Yes I did stretch it in relation to the original width. Glad you liked it. Appreciated.

Prosaic,

Hi MD,

Thanks for visiting / commentating.

>MD> Wow, I really like the effect that your choice of colors has on the mood of your piece...Would be great as a poster Smiley

Thanks muchly. I like the colours (though diferent monitors show different).

Poster - Sauce said similar... maybe that would be a good outlet. Appreciated.

Hi Ren,

Thanks for popping-back.

>R> Ahh, yes. . .that's what I get for not reading the thread before responding. . .I now see that the light source was already mentioned by Sauce. . .

Well, actually, I make it a point never (OK, very seldom) to read other crits before I post. Had you read previous comments, your interesting interpretation may have suffered - I like plurality of views and pre-reading damages that.

>R> Your Pompeii comment prompted me to go back to a virtual tour of the city I'd found on google before. . .absolutely fascinating. . .to consider in 79 AD. . .people were still people.  lolol

emm Well, yes... they would be - we were under the kosh of the Roman Empire - one of their ruined villas is near(ish) to here (Fishbourne) and some lived well, whilst others lived in slavery - plus ca change!

>R> And we're not so special. . . .

Indeed not. Dogs are. People aren't. Well, that is how I see it.

>R> The art, the architecture, the city layout. . .ect. . .all fascinating.

Yes, not my fav period but certainly fascinating. My friend and I were walking in our local woods earlier today (much closer than Fishbourne) - in there is a Bronze Age burial mound. Somehow, warring and human sacrifices apart, I think I would have been more comfortable then - a more human scale than the Romans' grand plans.

Fascinating, as always. Thanks Ren.

Hi Ren,

Thanks for commentating / critting.

>R> Hmmmm. . .and I see a positive. . .the moon is full. .

Now I wondered why my moon was always half-empty!

>R> .spilling fertility through ashen clouds. . .and the green stone resembles marble and, perhaps we can stretch it towards malachite. . .

>R> either way. . .green is growth. . .malachite carries with it prosperity, transformation, alignment with divine will, etc. . .marble can help with clarity of thoughts and serenity. . .etc. . .

This is one of those interesting monitor things (and I suspect mine is not the best). I see only the faintest hint of green and wouldn't have seen it if you had not mentioned it. It has oft been said "red and green should never be seen." I am delighted to work against that - colour wheel! Fuh!

>R> sometimes the ash comes before the growth. . .and I tend to look beyond the "literal biblical"  *smile*

Again, my moon is less full - ash to me is Pompeii; I prefer your ashen moon,

comment/crit -- the light source being the moon. . .it appears that the underside of the column/cross should be a shade of the green. . .and not a "light". . .jmho.

Yes, I agree in your interpretation - that should be so. However, my view is different (as in my reply to sauce, above). As always, I really appreciate many different views - all I am saying is I think there is an intellectual integrity if one thinks nuke radiation.

Having said that, I tend to create an image then (very much as an audience) decide what it means. So I worked with this until it meant something to me - the destroyed world. Hence, the radiation penetrating the cross makes sense in my version - but not in others.

Interpretations are fab things. Viva la difference moons.

Thanks muchly, Ren.

p.

PS Malachite is my fav mineral - sectioned and polished it is wonderful. Worth a few coppers, anyway Smiley

Hi Sauce,

>S> really like this one. would make an excellent poster - v high impact indeed.

Thank you. Much appreciated. Yes I had that in mind.

>S> the shadows on the pillar etc not coinciding with the visible light source's direction does give the scene a spooky extra edge; there must be another light shining that we cannot see but assume...

Yes. Else the light is shining right through the cross, searing it; penetrating the very symbol it has felled.

I (as always) welcome all interpretations. In my own mind this was a dying sun on a dying planet and it is delivering highly radioactive sunlight through the destroyed atmosphere, finally destroying the very religion of the people; as it destroys the last vestiges of life.

>S> (very biblical)

Thank you - yes my source idea - fire and brimstone.

Appreciated.

Hi Nas,

>N> There is a slightly Pythonesque feel to this doomsday photo - with its felled cross, angry sky and moon shining through black clouds.  The final destruction. I like the colours on the plinth and cross and its contrast with the sky.

Thank you. I know what you mean - Terry Gilligham's title-graphics to "Life of Brian." I had not thought of that - good point. Gosh what esteemed company!

Glad you like the colours. Yes, "the final destruction" would be an excellent and appropriate title - I might change it to that. Will think on't.

Cheers Nas,

Hi P

There is a slightly Pythonesque feel to this doomsday photo - with its felled cross, angry sky and moon shining through black clouds.  The final destruction.

I like the colours on the plinth and cross and its contrast with the sky.
