Yes, though what I meant is you could still create that effect with this image using post-shoot techniques (even "Paint" - as provided with Windows" - can be used. Would be stunning then.

The reason I felt it disquieting is several-fold...

Firstly, the base of the light appears to be a tail - reminds me of an attacking insect etc.

Secondly, I like the dark. We have no street lights where I live and I love looking at the night sky but on no-Moon nights one cannot see one's hand in front of one's face here. Like a float-chamber, I find that relaxing.

Thirdly, dark or not, I hate very bright lights shone at me.

Apropos the technical aspects of the photograph...

I think you could improve it still further by completely blacking all the background. At present glimpses of other images are visible and the background (perhaps on my monitor) is not jet black anyway.

Interesting. I never would have seen this as assaulting. I lean more towards the spiritual, magical, or even ufo, but all good. Glad you enjoyed. 

It has been fun digging up some of my old photos and remembering ancient history. Many of these have actually sparked new ideas - but it would require me dusting off the 35mm. 

How cool would if be to see a photo like this hand but done with the whole human body? Or the car lights going down a very dark path but making a swerving pattern. We also had a special filter that allowed us to use our telescope to take pictures of the sun, which are pretty amazing if I could find them. My pictures are in serious need of organizing.

Yes this is fascinating. Light amid dark is a rich and varied subject for images and I have taken some pictures of lamps and red lasers and so on. 

With your picture, here is a certain shock; a certain realisation that something has assaulted our conscience which is angrily active. It is as if a vexed, frenetic, illuminated and dangerous insect were buzzing, ready to attack us.
