Hi Diane,

Thanks for returning,

>D> You confirmed all of my suspicions right down to the helicopter. I have experienced a Chinook flying overhead, they are massive as compared to normal helicopters.

Absolutely. When we first moved here, years ago, we were having a late-night Summer barbecue and suddenly there was much noise. Overhead, very low, was a UFO. An alien leant from the door and we felt a down-draught. It was, in fact, an RAF crew flying a Chinook and having some fun - they were actually quite high in the sky, else we would have been blown-over. And the alien was, of course, a crew-man. But it was a very strange experience. Chinooks are certainly massive machines.

>D> Love what you did with this and appreciate it even more after seeing the original. Another great post from the pro!

Well, Diane, you are extremely kind. Might I use you as my marketing copy-writer?!  Smiley Smiley

Thank you Diane.

Hi Ren,

Thanks for popping-back.

>R> Ah-ha. . .now I see in the original. . .the distinct helicopter. . .and not being oriented to "mechanical things that fly in the air" other than commercial jetliners. . .I didn't connect the name of the photo with a helicopter. .

I think... hang on, I'll just check with Wiki...

Yes, the Boeing Chinook takes its name from:

"Chinookan refers to several groups of Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. In the early 19th century, the Chinookan peoples lived along the lower and middle Columbia River in present-day Oregon and Washington."

The two largest users of the helicopter are the United States Army and the Royal Air Force.

>R> and wondered about the twin-rotors. .  .though I'll have to say that's not what I called them.

The mind boggelth!

>R> It certainly does look like an insect that got stuck on the screen at first glance. . .one that I definitely want to clean off. . .

They travel at almost 200 MPH so do be quick!

>R> and yes leaving it there does elicit a reaction to be sure.  *smile*

That's what we want!

Thanks again, Ren.

Hi Nas,

Thanks for commentating.

>N> I'm not quite sure how I feel about this picture.

You feel ecstatic and want to buy an A3 print for £250. No?? Oh well...

>N>  Thoughts going through my mind are "what a tangled web we weave....."

Sir Walter Scott! (1771-1832)

“Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive."

One of my fav quotations.

>N> The tiny chinook helicopter looks like a mechanical insect and sets me thinking of James Bond type gadgets either a sort of bug or weapon.

Yep, moi aussi.

>N> The blue tree is intriguing.  It almost looks projected onto the pink trellis background.

Thanks  I like that.

Appreciated.

Hi P

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this picture.  Thoughts going through my mind are "what a tangled web we weave....."

The blue tree is intriguing.  It almost looks projected onto the pink trellis background.

Hi ren,

Thanks for popping-in and commentating.

>R> The juxtaposition in color between the what looks like plant matter on either side of this plays against the weave nicely. . .

Thank you. Yes they are tree-tops.

>R> not sure what that is. . .whirligig, helicopter, insect?

Yes it is a helicopter and, yes, it reminded me of an insect.

>R> It intrudes upon the image for me. . .

Sorry about that. The irony is: it was why I took the photograph in the first place. These Chinooks have a distinctive sound (because of the twin-rotors) and I keep trying to shoot them s soon as I hear one approach.

I could have excised the helicopter from the final image but (as you indicate) it reminds me of an insect - perhaps trapped in the weave.

>R> must be my anal qualities that want to make me moisen a kleenex and wipe it off.  lolol

But I quite like that: it is a response: you are not ignoring it - it makes an impact. Sorry it vexes, though.

Thanks Ren.

Hi Diane,

Thank you very much for your visit and comments.

>D> This is beautiful. I love the blue, especially against the pinkish background. Wondering what the weave is; fence, wall, monument, computer background?

You have it: it is computer-generated. I usually work by taking photographs then post-shoot editing them on the computer.

>D> And there is one small thing on the weave that I cant quite make out?

Ah that is what gives this image its name. It is a US-built Chinook helicopter - one of the few twin-rotor helicopters in existence - though there are many actual Chinooks in service. Though many are in service in the Middle East, we live in an area the Royal Air Force use for pilot-training, hence we see many of these giant helicopters (they can carry a couple of vehicles or twenty-plus fully-kitted soldiers.

>D> Enjoyed the post tremendously.

That is most kind of you, Diane. Thank you.

For possible interest, below, is the original photograph upon which the main image is based. (Is is considerably shrunk in resolution).
