Hi Doug

Like Norm, your title intrigued me.  10 Tishri of course is Yom Kippur.

You link in to the story of the binding of Isaac, which is read on Rosh Hashanah when the shofar is blown to open the gates of heaven and the ten days of awe begin.  They are closed with the blowing of the shofar again at the end of Yom Kippur and judgement has been made as to who will be inscribed in the book of life.

I like the way you bring lamb and sheep into the poem.  Abraham's faith in God was so strong that he was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac till he is stopped at the last minute and a ram appears and is sacrificed instead.

Tishrei 10
(A Journal Entry)

Obedience obeys compulsion’s call
to humbleness, humiliating pride,
as sheepishly one blameless takes the fall
to resurrect the hope that Death has died.

The joy that lay ahead provided all
the motivation needed to endure
the crosswinds blowing from a hellish squall,
which sought impedance, through a sepulcher,
of love’s advancement toward the ancient walls
imprisoning the captives thought as free.

The scapegoat is released! The sacred law
is now fulfilled—the soul finds purity!
The guilt of conscience now is on the lam;
the shofar sounds my freedom, thus I am!
