I think I shall write my first nonet
to see what I can hang on it.
It could be a little hook
or it could be a big.
Wouldn't it be nice
to show Daniel
that I tried
to write
one!

When dande puts her hand to the wheel
no one can know what she might do
to surprise us with something
that will bring us laughter
or tough reflection
perhaps a smile
that helps us
to see
Light

~  Hiya Daniel,

although I haven't got a normal Nonet or an Acrostic Nonet, I do happen to have a Mirror Nonet that I can share..

Sing to the Fae

autumnal spirits sing to the fae
and the winged dance the forest
as filigree cascades warm
to fall ‘pon mother’s tongue,
earth’s voice pours softly
to kiss our skin
in colors
of fall
~ love ~

Wonderful piece, Sasha!  Sorry it took me so long to acknowledge it!

Instruction posted, as planned...

Yes, Norm, that was my plan when I arrived home today.  I simply didn't have time to post the instructions and examples at work.  I hope you'll find the above satisfactory.  You know I'm always open to correction and suggestion.

Here's another inverse, acrostic nonet:

ache ‘crostic

aches
cannot
reconcile
oil’s invasion
so as to remove
tension in the tendons;
it takes more than any rub
can do to reach in where it may
sense what the surface merely signals

Daniel,

Thanks again --- could I impose upon you to also post in the first example of these what the rules of the form are? Though many of us know, there are just as many who may not be familiar.  Thanks.

Nonet

A nonet is a simple syllabic poem of nine lines of decreasing length thus:

line 1 - 9 syllables
line 2 - 8 syllable
line 3 - 7 syllabl
line 4 - 6 syllab
line 5 - 5 sylla
line 6 - 4 syll
line 7 - 3 syl
line 8 - 2 sy
line 9 - 1 s

There is no meter, rhythm or rhyme requirement.

Here are some examples:

feather down

sprinkle neverland dust upon me;
you’ll make me quiver till I rise
stretching, soaring all awing
for your flutter presence;
we splay flanks in trail
touching sideways
for free-fall
to chute
down

MLee Dickens'son 01 March 2005

Whirlwind Dancin’ Ain’t Wrong After All

dancing free from Satan’s lies, I’m one
with brother, friend, and ‘enemy’
in bounding, senseless Fantasy
yet Truth in all its bindings
sensing it may expound
unbound, now feeling
things forbidden
that in truth
were not
wrong

© MLee Dickens'son 20 Sept 2003

... and an acrostic nonet:

Eviction

Eventually this day would come;

villain – this procrastination

inexorably . . . must end,

crashing all about you

~ still, my heart pounds out ~

to let you know

it’s firmly

ordered

now

© MLee Dickens'son 10 Sept 2003

An inverse nonet looks like an ethere (which has ten lines) with a line missing…
with 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 syllables

For example:

Know more…

Lone
detached
dual-faced
behind shutter
Once iron, running
smelted to be re-cast
no more as vain rescuer;
now not needing to be perfect
no longer shame-ridden… or silent
